I designed Linum shawl last Summer, when I wanted to make an airy and light summer shawl with a modern look.
And this year, as soon as the hot summer days reached Finland, I found myself longing to cast on another Linum.
A quick scan through my stash, and I found the perfect yarn for it, BC Garn Tussah Tweed (100% Tussah Silk; 250 m / 273 yds per 50 g). I’ve had this yarn for years, just waiting for the right project.
Linum is a modern triangle shawl that begins from the bottom tip. You knit your way up, alternating garter stripes with mesh lace blocks that change direction.
I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of mesh lace. It’s so simple to knit and so beautiful. And there’s so many ways to have fun with it. This pattern plays with right and left slanting decreases.
First the lace rows tilt to the right, then the lace changes direction and tilts to the left. For accent, there’s a purl ridge row where the mesh changes direction. Between the lace blocks you take a breather with a few rows of garter stitch.
This is such a relaxing project to have on the needles. Easy to knit a few rows here and there, and small and light enough on my lap during the hot summer days.
The pattern has both written and charted instructions, and a stitch count table to help keep you on track the entire time.
