Hillside is worked sideways with garter stitch and lace chevron. The two halves of the shawl are mirror images. The focal point is the beautiful diamond pattern that decorates the middle.

You start and end with just two stitches, increasing to the halfway point and then decreasing on the other half. No bind-off needed!

Yarn

Two skeins of The Fibre Co. Cumbria (90% wool, 10% mohair; 218 m / 238 yds per 100 g). Shown in colour Scafell Pike.

Or approximately 436 m / 476 yds of similar worsted weight yarn.

Needles

Size 4.5 mm / US 7 circular needle. Or size that gives you pattern gauge.

This shawl is worked flat, but I recommend using a 60-80 cm / 24-32 inch circular needle to accommodate the growing number of stitches.

Gauge

17 stitches and 34 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in garter stitch, before blocking

Finished measurements

After blocking
190 cm / 75 in (top edge) x 74 cm / 29 in (depth)

Stitches used

k: knit
kfb: knit to front and back loop of the same stitch
yo: yarn over
k2tog: knit 2 stitches together
