Each July, Knit Purl – home of quality yarns in Portland, Oregon – welcome summer with a month-long salute to ethereal and lightweight yarns, and this year I had the pleasure to design a shawl for the occasion.
For the yarn we chose Ito Urugami, an interesting and luxurious wool and paper blend from Japan. Despite my initial doubts, I actually really loved knitting with Urugami and hope to have it again on my needles soon.
In Starlight shawl, traditional Shetland lace meets Scandinavian minimalism and the long Japanese tradition of paper textiles. The result is gorgeous and contemporary accessory that’ll be a wardrobe staple all year long.
